It all started when...

Las Vegas Pipe Band was originally known as Desert Skye Pipes and Drums founded in 1999 by Daniel Packer in Las Vegas, NV. The original membership included 2 pipers and one drummer with mismatched kilts and equipment.  They adopted a civilian style dress from the outset making Desert Skye the only civilian pipe band in Southern Nevada.

In 2001, a very talented member of Desert Skye developed the Nevada State tartan (plaid design featured on fabric that is normally specific to a clan or region), pursued the passage of legislation to officially recognize the tartan as that of the state of Nevada, and registered the tartan with the Lord Lyon in Scotland (tartan authority).  Soon, Desert Skye was outfitted with new Nevada State tartan kilts and began to take shape as the band seen today.

Desert Skye was known as the ‘Las Vegas Pipe Band,’ and adopted a simplified logo of the Las Vegas skyline in 2013 to pay tribute to the city that has been responsible for the success of the band.  In 2014 Desert Skye made it official and changed the name permanently to Las Vegas Pipe Band.  Las Vegas businesses and the Celtic community has provided opportunities for work and performances that would not be available in many other cities.  Las Vegas Pipe Band has played on the main stage at Fremont Street, performed with the Grammy award winning Chieftains at the Smith Center, and performed for numerous events on and off the Las Vegas strip.  Las Vegas Pipe Band is a comprehensive organization willing to take participants of all levels and has programming in place to foster artistic excellence; the support of local businesses is essential to the sustainability of the organization.

The Pipe Major is Andrew Fusco and with the help of other key leadership the band has grown to include both Grade 4 and Grade 5 competition bands and numerous competitive soloists that can be seen in highland games and performances throughout the region. Las Vegas Pipe Band has more than thirty dedicated members in two grades and relies on the funding from companies and organizations to meet goals and continue operating as Las Vegas premier pipe band.

The band is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions in accordance with Code section 170.
