This event brings you the perfect traditional Scottish pairing of whisky and bagpipe music. We will have numerous scotch whiskies to sample - including some high end or rare whiskies you may not have had the chance to taste before - along with a light meal with samples of traditional Scottish fair. A whisky expert will be on hand to pour, educate, and answer all of your questions. The evening will start and end with a smattering of pipe tunes from the Las Vegas Pipe Band for your listening pleasure. We will also host a silent auction so bring your checkbooks and be ready to bid on whisky packages, a helicopter ride courtesy of Sundance Helicopters, Las Vegas Pipe Band logo'd merchandise, and more!
This event is sponsored in part by the generous support of The Balvenie and Wee Care Pediatrics.
Our 4th Hihgland Games of the season, Las Vegas Pipe Band will compete at Scottish Fest in Costa Mesa as well - come say hello!
The pipe band contest consists of pipe bands in one of four grades, grade 1, the most experienced grade, through grade 4, the least experienced. Grades 1 through 3 play two different types of contests, the harder MSR (think Figure Skating compulsories) and the Medley (think Figure Skating freestyle program). In the MSR, each band must play a March, a Strathspey, and a Reel to demonstrate their technical skill. In the medley, each band can play what type of tunes they like, from marches, reels and hornpipes, to slow airs and retreats to display not only their technical skill, but artistic skill as well. In Grade 4 bands play the medley and the Quick March Medley instead of the MSR, which consists of a collection of marches in any time signature.
Las Vegas Pipe Band is the host band for this year's Highland Games in Prescott Arizona!
For many Highland games festival attendees, the most memorable of all the events at the games is the massing of the pipe bands. Normally held in conjunction with the opening and closing ceremonies of the games, as many as 20 or more pipe bands will march and play together. The result is a thunderous rendition of Scotland the Brave or Amazing Grace, and other crowd-pleasing favourites.
It is, in fact, the music of the bagpipe which has come to symbolize music at the Games and, indeed, in Scotland itself. In addition to the massed bands, nearly all Highland games gatherings feature a wide range of piping and drumming competition, including solo piping and drumming, small group ensembles and, of course, the pipe bands themselves.
The 2016 Las Vegas Highland Games are just around the corner! Invite your friends and family to the 12th Celtic Gathering and Highland Games, and come see live music, taste traditional food, and check out Athletics, Dance, and of course see the Las Vegas Pipe Band compete in band and solo Bagpiping Competitions!
Robert Watt, from Maghera in Northern Ireland, is one of the best solo pipers in the world today. Robert has performed on several television and radio programs and has traveled extensively in Europe and the USA. He has to date recorded five albums of his own and has played as a guest on several others. Basically, he's brilliant, and we couldn't be more excited to host a recital for the community for the second year.
It is a rare opportunity - you won't want to miss it!
